StepForward BGC校で働く先生を紹介します。

25回目の今回は、「Tine先生」に、英語講師になったきっかけ、先生自身の性格や趣味などについてインタビューをしました。

インタビュー（日本語）

• 出身地は？

サマール島のカルビガに住んでいます。自然の洞窟や滝に恵まれた場所です。

• 大学の専攻は？

英語の学士号を取得しています。また、もうすぐ英語と英文学の修士号を取得する予定です。生涯にわたっていつでも新しい学びがあるので、英語や英文学が大好きです。

• 講師の経験は？　

大学卒業後、すぐにESL教師になりました。それ以来、10年以上の経験があります。

• 講師として好きなレッスンは？

スピーキングクラスを教えるのが好きです。スピーキングスキルの上達は目に見えるので、生徒さんがうまくなっているのがわかるとうれしいです。自信がつくと、モチベーションが限界を押しひろげてくれます。

• 趣味は？

写真撮影が好きで、撮った写真をすべてウェブサイトで管理しています。エッセイや詩も公開しています。これは、数ある趣味の1つです。

• 出身地はどこですか？あなたが生まれ育った場所について教えてください。

生まれも育ちもサマール島のカルビガです。私たちは農園を経営しています。太陽の恵みを浴びた果物や野菜を収穫して、新鮮なまま地元のレストランに届けています。洞窟もたくさんあります。みなさんが一度訪れたら、忘れられない冒険になることをお約束します。

• 自分自身をどのように表現しますか？

明るい人間だと思います。いつもポジティブな面を見るようにしています。ありきたりかもしれませんが、自分の教えるクラスではそうしています。

• 英語講師になったきっかけは何ですか？

もっともシンプルな言い方をするなら、「教えるのが大好き」。ほかの言い方だと、「生徒さんに学ぶ意欲があり、先生がそれに応えられるスキルを持っているのが好き」です。2つの側面があります。私たちは一緒に教え、学ぶのです。

• 日本人の生徒に英語を教えることはどうですか？

日本の方ほど忍耐強く、学ぶ意欲にあふれた生徒さんを見たことはありません。日本の方は、フォーカスすべきスキルをしっかり把握しています。これは、英語を学ぶうえで欠かせません。また、やはり上達に不可欠なフィードバックや間違いの指摘も柔軟に受け入れる姿勢を持っています。

• 休みの日は何をしますか？

写真を撮るのが好きです。Nikonのカメラを持っているので、これでほとんどの写真を撮っています。いつか、私はその場所からいなくなります。ですから、いるときに写真を撮っておくのは人生で最高のことだと思います。

Interview（English）

• Hometown

I live in a place called Calbiga, Samar that’s very rich in natural caves and waterfalls.

• Major in University

I finished AB English as my undergraduate degree. Right now, I’m finishing my Masters Degree in Language and Literature. I love learning about these because it’s lifelong – there is always, always something new.

• Teaching Experience

I have been an ESL Teacher right after college. It’s been over 10 years since.

• Favorite Lessons as A Teacher

I love teaching speaking classes. I love it when I see that the student’s speaking skill is improving because it shows physically. When there is a boost in confidence, their motivation raises the bar.

• Interest

I love taking photos. I manage a website with all of my photos and also share my essays and some poetry. It’s one of my many hats.

• Where are you from? Can you tell about the city where you were born and raised?

I was born and raised in Calbiga, Samar. We manage a farm where we harvest sun-kissed fruits and vegetables. From there, we deliver them fresh to our local restaurants. We have many caves too and I guarantee you that once you visit my hometown, it’s an adventure you won’t forget.

• How do you describe yourself? 

I describe myself as a cheerful person. My mindset is to always look on the brighter side. That might be so cliche but that’s exactly how I do it in my classes.

• What made you an English teacher?

I love teaching. I guess that’s the simplest way to say it. The other way is that I love it when a student is so determined to learn and you are equipped with the necessary skills to help them. It’s a two-way situation. Both of you teach and learn at the same.

• How do you like teaching English specially to Japanese learners?

I have never handled students as patient and determined as the Japanese students. They are very particular when it comes to their focused sills which is absolutely necessary when it comes to learning English. They are also very open when it comes to feedbacks and corrections which surely is a crucial attitude in improving.

• What do you do in your free time?

I love taking photos. I own a Nikon camera and pretty much take photos of everything. One day, I won’t be here. What I can take photos of while I’m around are what I consider the best parts of my life.
