StepForward BGC校で働く先生を紹介します。

第7回目の今回は、7年の講師経験をもつ「Joy先生」に、英語講師になったきっかけ、先生自身の性格や趣味などについてインタビューをしました。

• 出身地は？

フィリピン、マリンデューク

• 大学の専攻は？

中等教育専攻（生物科学）

• 講師の経験は？　

ESL講師として2年。高校の科学教師として5年

文法、語彙、ビジネス英語レッスン

• 出身地はどこですか？あなたが生まれ育った場所について教えてください。

私が生まれ育ったマリンデューク州は、地理的に「フィリピンの心臓部」と言われています。 ルソン島にある小さなハート型の島で、独特の伝統とお祭りで知られています。この州は通常、毎年四旬節に行われるモリオネス・フェスティバルで知られています。 一日で回りきれる小さな州ですが、それが私の故郷です。

• 自分自身をどのように表現しますか？

1. 私は自分では内向的だと思っていますが、様々な状況に社交的に対応することができます。ただ、一人の時間の方が好きです。
2. 私は、教えること、学ぶことに情熱を持っています。
3. 私は強い責任感を持っています。
4. 私は家族をとても愛しています。
5. 私は自分に厳しいところがあります。

• 英語講師になったきっかけは何ですか？

母が英語の先生なので、母の影響を強く受けていると思います。 英語は学校で一番好きな科目のひとつで、この科目にはさまざまなトピックがあり、興味深く感じています。 また、英語を使いこなすことは、21世紀において重要なスキルであると信じています。だから、もっと多くの人に英語を教えたいです。

• 日本人の生徒に英語を教えることはどうですか？

私が出会った日本人生徒のほとんどは、礼儀正しく、真面目に学習に取り組んでいます。 彼らは英語を真面目に学び、修正や提案を前向きに受け入れてくれるので、私は彼らに教えることを楽しんでいます。 また、彼らは真剣に授業に取り組んでおり、授業も積極的に参加しています。 概して、私が英語を教えることが好きな理由は、英語を学び、向上させることに前向きな人たちに対し、私が自分の知っていることを共有することができるからです。

• 休みの日は何をしますか？

普段は、暇さえあればアニメを観ています。それ以外には、本、特に自己啓発本を読みます。 気が向いたら小説を読むこともあります。 家族や友人と旅行するのも好きです。最近、写真の勉強を始めましたが、まだまだです。

• Where are you from? Can you tell about the city where you were born and raised?

Marinduque, the province where I was born and raised, is geographically considered the “heart of the Philippines”. It’s a small heart-shaped island in Luzon known for its unique tradition and festivities. This province is usually known for the Moriones Festival, which is celebrated every Lenten Season. It may be a small province which you can finish going around in one day, but for me, it’s home.

• How do you describe yourself? 

1. I consider myself an introvert, but I can socially adjust to different situations. I just like and value my alone time better.
2. I am passionate about teaching and learning.
3. I have a strong sense of responsibility.
4. I love my family very much.
5. I am hard on myself most of the time.

• What made you an English teacher?

My mother is an English teacher, so I think I was deeply influenced by her. English is also one of my favorite subjects in school, and I find a lot of different topics in this subject interesting. I also believe that having a good command of the English language is an important skill in the 21st century. Hence, I’d like to teach more people about this language.

• How do you like teaching English specially to Japanese learners?

Most of the Japanese learners I have encountered are polite and show a good attitude toward learning. I enjoy teaching them because they show interest in learning English and are often open to corrections and suggestions. They also take their lessons seriously and participate actively during classes. In general, I like teaching English because I can share the things that I know to other people who are also interested to learn and improve their English skills.

• What do you do in your free time?

I usually watch animes during my free time. Aside from this, I also read books, particularly self-help books. I sometimes read fictional books if I’m in the mood. I also like traveling with my family and friends. Recently, I started learning some photography skills, but I think I still have a long way to go.
