StepForward BGC校で働く先生を紹介します。

第8回目の今回は、「Gail先生」に、英語講師になったきっかけ、先生自身の性格や趣味などについてインタビューをしました。

• 出身地はどこですか？あなたが生まれ育った場所について教えてください。

私はカビテ出身ですが、カビテはとても歴史的な場所です。 初代フィリピン大統領も私の家の近くに住んでいました。現在の自宅から10分のところにあります。

• 自分自身をどのように表現しますか？

1. 私は内向的な人間ですが、状況に応じて臨機応変に振る舞うことができます。
2. 私は両親が大好きで、両親がいるからこそ、私はいつも一生懸命働いています。
3. 私は以前バンドをやっていて、教会の音楽グループのリーダーもやっていました。

• 英語講師になったきっかけは何ですか？

英語教師になることは、私の人生の中でとても意外な決断でした。 私は大学で教職とは関係のない教科を専攻していました。 食品会社でマネージャーとして働いた後、食品業界は自分には向いていないと思い、英語を教えてみようと思い、仕事を始めました。 最初は大変でした。でも今は、より良い教育者になったと言えるし、職業人生の最後まで教えることになるだろうと思います。

• 日本人の生徒に英語を教えることはどうですか？

日本人生徒の多くは礼儀正しいです。 彼らのおかげで、私は教えることが好きだとも言えます。毎日教えるだけでなく、生徒の人生経験から学ぶことで、私自身が成長し、学び、より良い人間になれると思っています。

• 休みの日は何をしますか？

普段はサイクリングに行くことが多いのです。 最近、サイクリングにハマって、1日の中でサイクリングがないと不完全燃焼な感じです。 夜のサイクリングが好きで、リラックスできてストレスが溜まりません。

• Where are you from? Can you tell about the city where you were born and raised?

I am from Cavite and this place is very historical. Our very first Philippine president lived near my house. It is just 10 minutes away from my current home.

• How do you describe yourself? 

1. I am an introvert person but I also can adjust to different things even in socializing.
2. I love my parents and they are the reason why I work so hard all the time.
3. I was a part of a band before and I was also the leader of our music group in our church before.

• What made you an English teacher?

It was a very surprising decision of my life. My college course is not related to teaching. After working for several food companies as a manager, I just realized that being in food industry is not for me so I tried to explore and started working in the ESL industry. At first, it was tough. But now I can say that I am a better educator now and I see myself teaching until the end of my professional life.

• How do you like teaching English specially to Japanese learners?

Most of the Japanese learners are polite. It isn’t very difficult for me to love teaching. I am seeing myself growing, learning and become a better person not only by just teaching everyday, but also by learning from my students’ life experience.

• What do you do in your free time?

I usually go cycling. Recently, I got into cycling and I feel incomplete without it in a day. I prefer to be a night biker and it makes me relaxed and stress-free.
