Mike先生 -StepForwardの講師紹介②

第二回目の今回は、生徒のみなさまから特に教え方がわかりやすいと評判の「Mike先生」に、英語講師になったきっかけ、先生自身の性格や趣味などについてインタビューをしました。

インタビュー（日本語）

• 出身地は？

ラグナ州カランバ市 です。

• 大学の専攻は？

放送学科ジャーナリズム専攻です。

• 講師の経験は？　

約12年間、指導経験があります。

• 講師として好きなレッスンは？

最近は、ビジネス英語のクラスを教えるのが楽しいです。目標に向かって努力することに慣れている忙しい大人たちとコミュニケーションをとり、教えることが好きです。

• 趣味は？

旅行が好きで、少なくとも年に1回は旅行をします。

• 出身地はどこですか？あなたが生まれ育った場所について教えてください。

私はカランバ市で生まれ育ちました。カランバ市は、数多くの温泉リゾートがあることから「フィリピンのスプリングリゾートの首都」とも呼ばれています。また、フィリピンの国民的英雄であるホセ・リサール博士が生まれた街であることから、「天才のゆりかご」としても知られています。

• 自分自身をどのように表現しますか？

私が何事にも情熱的に取り組むのは、常にベストパフォーマンスを発揮するための原動力となる、 安定したインスピレーションの源があるからです。

• 英語講師になったきっかけは何ですか？

私が大学生の時、さまざまな国の学生や教授に会う機会がありました。 世界のさまざまな地域から来た、さまざまな経歴を持つ人たちですが、人生において多くの共通点があることに驚きました。 その時、私はボランティアで留学生に英語を教えていたのですが、それ以来、英語を教えることが好きになりました。 歴史を教えることも好きです。

• 日本人の生徒に英語を教えることはどうですか？

私の英語の授業によって、日本人の生徒の生活に役立っているのを見ると、いつも嬉しくなります。 授業後に生徒が笑顔で、私の英語の授業がいかに彼らの生活に有意義なものであったかを話してくれるたびに、 私は充実した気持ちになります。

• 休みの日は何をしますか？

私は読書がとても好きです。読書は、語学教師としての仕事に活かせる多くのことを学ぶのに役立つと思います。 また、語彙やコミュニケーション能力の向上にも役立ちますし、 ストレスを感じたときに少し気持ちをリラックスさせることもできます。

I have been teaching for almost 12 years.

• Favorite Lessons as A Teacher

Recently, I enjoy teaching business English classes. I love communicating and teaching busy adults who are used to working towards objectives.

• Interest

I love traveling and I try to take a trip at least every year.

• Where are you from? Can you tell about the city where you were born and raised?

I was born and raised in Calamba city. My city is known as the “Spring Resort Capital of the Philippines” because of its numerous hot spring resorts. Our city is known also as the “cradle of genius” because it is the city where the national hero of the Philippines, Dr. Jose Rizal was born.

• How do you describe yourself? 

I’m always passionate to everything that I do and it is because I have a steady source of inspiration that drives and makes me perform my best all the time.

• What made you an English teacher?

As a university student I had the chance to meet students and professors from different coutries. It was amazing how we all came from different parts of the world and from such different backgrounds and yet we shared so many similarities in life. As I was one of the volunteer English teachers to some of the foreign students that time, from then on, I fell in love teaching English. And as they say, the rest is history.

• How do you like teaching English specially to Japanese learners?

It always feels good to see when the lives of my Japanese students are greatly helped and enhanced because of the English lessons they learn from me. I feel fulfilled everytime they have smiles on their faces after our classes and when they say how my English classes give meaningful improvements to their lives.

• What do you do in your free time?

I love reading so much. I believe that it helps me to learn a lot of things which I can use in my work as a langauge teacher. Also, it helps me improve more my vocabulary and communication skills, and help my mind relax a bit when I feel a bit stressed.
