StepForward BGC校で働く先生を紹介します。

28回目の今回は、「Jo先生」に、英語講師になったきっかけ、先生自身の性格や趣味などについてインタビューをしました。

インタビュー（日本語）

• 出身地は？

ケソン市です。

• 大学の専攻は？

マスコミュニケーションです。

• 講師の経験は？　

6年以上になります。

• 講師として好きなレッスンは？

ボキャブラリーと英語でのライティングです。

• 趣味は？

読書、映画やYouTube動画の鑑賞、音楽鑑賞です。

• 出身地はどこですか？あなたが生まれ育った場所について教えてください。

マカティ市で生まれましたが、フィリピンでもっとも進歩的な都市のひとつであるケソン市で育ちました。この街には、フィリピン大学など最高の教育機関がいくつかあります。

• 自分自身をどのように表現しますか？

年上ですが、心は若いです。自然とその美しさに魅せられています。順応力があり、周りの人に楽に合わせることができます。このおかげで、さまざまな性格や個人差のある生徒さんを教えるのが好きなのだと思います。

• 英語講師になったきっかけは何ですか？

公務員だったため、実は最初、教えるのは好きではありませんでした。しかし、内気な性格を何とかしようと頑張った時期（とくに、たくさんの人の前で話す場面）があり、そのときにパブリックスピーキングのコースを受講しました。そこで得たスピーキングスキルを、前に非常勤講師として勤めていた大学で活かそうとしました。これが退職後に始めた先生のキャリアの始まりですが、今までずっと職業として続けています。

• 日本人の生徒に英語を教えることはどうですか？

とてもむずかしいですが、同時に楽しいです。多くの日本の生徒さんは礼儀正しく、熱心に学んでいます。日本の人たちに教えるのが好きなのは、生徒さんの面白い性格のおかげです。

• 休みの日は何をしますか？

インスピレーションを与えてくれる本を読んだり、ときどきYouTubeで映画や動画を観たりしています。また、目的地に急ぐ人たちを眺めるのも好きです。

• Where are you from? Can you tell about the city where you were born and raised?

I was born in Makati City but I was raised in Quezon City which is one of the most progressive cities in the Philippines. Some of the best educational institutions are in this city, such as the University of the Philippines, for one.

How do you describe yourself? 

I am old but young at heart. I adore nature and its beauty. I am adaptable and easily adjust to other people which I think is the reason why I like teaching students with different character traits and individual differences.

• What made you an English teacher?

Actually, at first, I didn’t like teaching as I was working as a government employee. However, there was a time when I tried to overcome my shyness especially in speaking in front of a large audience. So, I enrolled in public speaking course and tried to apply my speaking skill by working as a part time instructor in my former university . That started my teaching career after retirement, and which became my vocation until the present time

• How do you like teaching English specially to Japanese learners?

It is challenging but at the same time interesting. I find Japanese students most of them, respectful and eager to learn. That is why, I like teaching Japanese students for their ineresting character traits.

• What do you do in your free time?

In my free time, I usually read inspirational books and partly watch movies and videos on YouTube. I l also like people-watching as they rush to their destinations.
