Sam先生 -StepForwardの講師紹介12

StepForward BGC校で働く先生を紹介します。

12回目の今回は、元々は科学を教えていた「Sam先生」に、英語講師になったきっかけ、先生自身の性格や趣味などについてインタビューをしました。

ソルソゴン市

• 講師の経験は？　

ESLを教え始めてから約2年半が経ちました。

• 講師として好きなレッスンは？

ビジネス英語と日常英会話の授業を楽しんでいます

• 趣味は？

ジャンルを問わず音楽を聴くこと、美術館や音楽祭・コンサートに行くこと、絵を描くこと、 Notion（オンラインサービス）を探索すること、 フォトカードやポップマートのブラインドボックス（中身が見えないくじ）を集めること、 クロワッサン屋を試すこと

• 出身地はどこですか？あなたが生まれ育った場所について教えてください。

私はソルソゴン州という海岸沿いの州で生まれ育ちました。 ソルソゴンには自然公園があり、熱帯雨林、草原、温泉、ビーチ、ボラカノ、そして豊かな森に囲まれた湖を見ることができます。 また、この州の固有種であるピリの実と木を記念するピリ・フェスティバルも広く知られています。 また、ソルソゴン州では、Bicol ExpressからChili ice creamまで、必食の美食が目白押しです。

• 自分自身をどのように表現しますか？

私は内向的な人間ですが、同時に楽しいことが大好きで、 外向的なとこともあります。 私は学ぶことが好きで、自分にとって心地よい領域から飛び出し、新しいことを探求しています。

• 英語講師になったきっかけは何ですか？

私は、異なる文化や国籍を持つ人々が、英語を通してコミュニケーションをとることに魅力を感じています。 また、子どもの頃から教師になるのが夢でした。 高校時代には最高の英語の先生に恵まれ、英語を学び、楽しむことを学びました。

• 日本人の生徒に英語を教えることはどうですか？

日本の生徒に英語を教えることは、充実した経験のひとつと言えると思います。 生徒たちは礼儀正しく、彼らの仕事に対する姿勢や人生観には感心させられるものがあります。

• 休みの日は何をしますか？

現在、週に4つの仕事を掛け持ちしているため、空いた時間はよく寝ています。

• Teaching Experience

StepForward is my first “break” in teaching. I have been teaching ESL for almost 6 months.

• Favorite Lessons as A Teacher

I have been enjoying my classes with Business English and Conversation in English.

• Interest

I’m interested in listening to any genres of music, going to art museums, music festivals and concerts (before pandemic happened), painting, exploring Notion, collecting photo cards and Popmart blind boxes, and trying out croissant places.

• Where are you from? Can you tell about the city where you were born and raised?

I was born and raised in Sorsogon, a coastal province. It has its natural park where you can visit rainforests, grasslands, hot springs, beaches, volcano and a lake bordered by lush forest. It is also widely-known for its Pili Festival to commemorate Pili nut and tree, both indigenous to the province. Sorsogon also offers a wide array of must-try gastronomic meals and delights from Bicol Express to Sili ice cream (Chili ice cream).

• How do you describe yourself? 

I am an introverted person and at the same time fun-loving and a little outgoing. I love to learn and explore new things which are out of my comfort zone.

• What made you an English teacher?

I am fascinated how people of different cultures and nationality get to communicate through English language. I also had this childhood dream of becoming a teacher. I had the best English teachers back in high school who greatly encouraged me to learn and enjoy the language.

• How do you like teaching English specially to Japanese learners?

I think teaching English to Japanese students is one of the things I could consider as a fulfilling experience. The students are polite and their work ethics and perspective in life are something I admire.

• What do you do in your free time?

I sleep a lot during my free time as I am currently juggling 4 jobs a week.
